We got the HK style baked Portuguese-style bolognese over spaghetti noodles and spicy eggplant with pork. The portions were pretty good size - we were full by the end of meal, but the taste itself wasn't anything special. The Portuguese chicken spaghetti was pretty bland and didn't taste very good. The eggplant dish was pretty good but was pretty oily.

Decent place for food depending on what you order. This is a great place for big groups (10 people or more) so a lot of my friends and I frequent here after an event. I've personally had the curry chicken, Portuguese chicken, beef egg drop (I hated this because there was a ton of cornstarch and barely any actual toppings), Cantonese fried noodles, beef brisket, eggplant, ying and yang and such.

I personally like to go for the beef brisket (includes potatoes and bok choy). The meat they use is definitely very fatty but I like how hearty and filling it is. My friends love the Portuguese chicken dish here. It's pretty good if you're into fried chicken- tastes like curry but creamier. But it's also just all chicken and rice (Some scrambled egg in the rice). The Cantonese fried noodle is pretty good with a generous amount of topping. The rice here is a hit or miss, sometimes it's super soggy and mushy (overcooked) and other times it's still undercooked and quite hard. Very average place but not bad for Chinese food in the area.

Contrary to popular belief, the restaurant is not a franchise of the typical Bubble tease shop you would associate with its name.

Bubble Tease is a family owned restaurant in one of the UWaterloo plazas. The family who owns the shop seems very down-to-earth. The children are always off to the side doing their own thing. The wait staff are not industry professionals, but they have manners and get the job done well. Service is faster than the typical Chinese restaurant, but no so fast as to think that everything was premade ahead of time.

The best part of Bubble Tease is that it offers lots of space for large groups. There's tons of tables and chairs for group settings, unlike most of the other places in the plaza. Atmosphere is also nice.

But if you are looking for a place with high quality food, Bubble Tease is not the place to be. My yellow curry with rice was $10 (in total) and came with an overwhelming amount of rice, with extremely bland curry sauce. You would think the portion sizes for the chicken are relatively fair as well, but don't be deceived. There was way too much deep fried batter that coated the marginal piece of meat. I could hardly taste anything! You know what they all say - yellow curry rice without the curry is just yellow rice... literally rice that was yellow.

A lot of people around us seemed to be enjoying hot pot - essentially a small pot on a stove with boiling broth that comes with included vegetables and meats. Perhaps dishes that didn't involve rice and sauce are of better quality.

TLDR: there are much better places for chinese food, group hangouts. I would suggest against Bubble Tease for now.

Great value for lunch special, 7.99. One meat plus veg and rice. Love black Bean beef. Fast and tasty.

It's hard to order things when things are out of stock.

I initially ordered the baked pork chop on rice (tomato sauce), but was told that was out of stock. Then I ordered the chicken on rice with Portuguese sauce to be told that was out of stock too. Finally, I asked if they could do it with tomato sauce, and they obliged, bringing chicken on rice with tomato sauce and coconut flakes.

The sauce was creamy and plentiful, I seem to remember that it was decent, but that's probably because I was incredibly hungry at the time.

Service was lacking. Confused. Food came out at different times. The restaurant feels like it has lots of space, yet sometimes there isn't enough space between tables to squeeze through.
